'The global campaign is focused on personalization and how Yahoo can help people navigate all their services and information online, according to several people familiar with the effort. The company is also expected to unveil new tools to help users customize Yahoo products like Yahoo.com, which it has recently updated to support links to other third-party software like Facebook,' says By Suzanne Vranica and Jessica E. Vascellaro for The Wall Street Journal.

Imagine an outsize parasol planted in an African village. By day, it offers shelter from the sun: by night, it sheds light for the local community using the energy collected in solar cells embedded in its canopy. It's clever, it explores a new role for textiles, and it shows concern for the planet. In short: an eco-friendly solution to a pernicious modern problem.

TIMESCAPES

Timescapes Timelapse: Mountain Light from Tom @ Timescapes on Vimeo.

Tom is working on a big 9-minute follow-up to "Learning to Fly", for next summer 2010. Meantime, here are some shots from his trip in August to California's White Mountains and Yosemite, all shot on the Canon 5D2.

These are sequences from his first film - "These Short Days" - currently in production. If anyone happens to know a good producer or production company who might be willing to help shepherd this film to completion for next Fall, Tom would really appreciate an introduction. Much thanks!

The mesmerising TV ad, shot on Toshiba products to showcase their hi-tech capability, features about 10 people captured in slow motion engaged in what appears to be a choreographed range of activities.

Toshiba's £3m ad campaign, dubbed the world's first "timesculpture" commercial, manipulates "snapshots of time" using more than 200 camcorders and video data requiring 336 hours of processing.

Nike Air Max I - Maxim

NikeSportswear - Air Max to Maxim from NikeSportswear on Vimeo.

In 1978, Nike revolutionized running by introducing Air technology. In 1987, Tinker Hatfield made Air visible in the Air Max 1, revolutionizing the industry itself.
Over the next 30 years, Nike did not stop, nor did Air’s design visionary, Tinker Hatfield. As part of a constant quest to improve athletic performance, Nike’s Air Cushioning technology gave rise to a series of iconic sports innovations.

Part of a new generation of Nike innovators, Ann-Marie Paz and Anthony Hope continue this mission. Driven by Tinker’s design ethos of “perform and provoke” – with the greatest research and materials at their disposal – they draw from the past and the future to create the best kicks in the world. The result: Air Maxim 1.

With Bill Bowerman and Tinker as a starting point, this timeline revisits those 30 years and gives a glimpse into the next 30. This is our story…Enjoy the trip.

BakerTweet

BakerTweet from POKE on Vimeo.

Everyone knows the best time to get your baked goods is when they're fresh out the oven. So people at Poke figured that this could be a killer use of Twitter. Letting followers know that fresh goodies are ready right now. But bakeries don't want laptops or phones lying around in the kitchen. Flour, eggs and technology don't mix so well.

So they built BakerTweet.

It's a bespoke piece of hardware (with Arduino-based guts) that allows our friends at Albion across the road to select what's just been baked and ping the relevant Twitter message to local customers. Meaning that you can time your trips to Albion to pick up the freshest freshness. Great!

Longplayer

What is Longplayer?

Longplayer is a one thousand year long musical composition. It began playing at midnight on the 31st of December 1999, and will continue to play without repetition until the last moment of 2999, at which point it will complete its cycle and begin again. Conceived and composed by Jem Finer, it was originally produced as an Artangel commission, and is now in the care of the Longplayer Trust.

Longplayer can be heard in the lighthouse at Trinity Buoy Wharf, London, where it has been playing since it began. It can also be heard at several other listening posts around the world, and globally via a live stream on the Internet.

Longplayer is composed for singing bowls – an ancient type of standing bell – which can be played by both humans and machines, and whose resonances can be very accurately reproduced in recorded form. It is designed to be adaptable to unforeseeable changes in its technological and social environments, and to endure in the long-term as a self-sustaining institution.

A Growing Pile of Work from Siggi Eggertsson on Vimeo.

This is a video that is made from over 400 images that Siggi Eggertsson created from 2003-2009. Bits and pieces from commercial, rejected and personal projects. Siggi had been collecting all those images to use in a completely different project, but then discovered that they could look great in animation too. After painful days in After Effects, fighting with all those 400 layers (and nearly killing his computer), the video was complete.

The Mill | History

The Mill is my most favorite post production house. I had a chance to catch and meet Michael Baulk (new Chairman of the Mill) speak at Belgrade Design Week festival in 2008. He started his presentation with this very words: "I didn't prepare presentation for today, but i have a point of view." After that i knew it's going to be a mind blowing speech since Michael is 30 years in the business. And it was, as the Mill is the best place for dreams making come true.
